From Day To Night is a two day wedding & portrait photography workshop for intermediate to advanced & professional photographers. I called this workshop From Day To Night, because that’s what I will do – take you from day to night with photography tips and techniques for all kinds of lighting scenarios. Here’s an overview of what students will take away at the end of the day:
Learn how to use natural light and off-camera flash with modifiers during a wedding day.
Learn about off-camera lighting techniques using flash & video light to create dramatic night time images.
Hands-on shooting challenges with a couple in both light and dark scenarios at a prime wedding venue in downtown Toronto, ON Canada.
Tips on how to evoke the best emotion from your clients, and learn to capture MOMENTS, not pictures.
Overview of my workflow following a wedding, including a review of all software & suppliers I utilize.
Practical advice on marketing, branding, and how to book weddings without paying for wedding shows or traditional advertising.
From Day To Night
The first day will take place in a classroom setting at Ryerson University, and will focus on running a successful wedding photography business. We will also cover the theory behind various off-camera & natural lighting techniques, for both day and night. There will also be dedicated time for student portfolio reviews where I want to give you positively directed critique to help you improve your images.
On the business side of things, I’ll be sharing my personal marketing strategies on how I built my business & brand, and how we book our wedding clients (we choose to shoot approximately 25 weddings per year). There will also be time for a question & answer period where you can ask anything you want to know.
On day two, which will take place at The Burroughes Building, we will put the lighting theory learned on day one to work while working with live models on-site. I will demonstrate my daytime and nighttime photography techniques, including working with sparklers, and every student will have plenty of opportunity to shoot & practice the techniques learned.
As working outside is weather-dependent, we will get out on the roof as much as possible, and even if it’s raining, I will attempt to teach you how to backlight the rain. The idea is that weather doesn’t stop on a real wedding day, so you should have the skills to shoot in every situation possible.
